Unit Description: The Med Surg floor at PMC is a fast-paced environment which strives to consistently deliver high quality patient care, while promoting an atmosphere built on evidence-based practice and the pursuit of excellent clinical outcomes. We also provide care for those individuals who require advanced care. With a few exceptions, this population is typically made up of DKA and A-Fib patients. These patients would be those who are expected to require progressive levels of care for only a brief period of time but are not considered unstable or in imminent need of intensive care unit level care. The more serious patients would be transferred to an ICU within the network. The PMC Med Surg floor has 17 rooms with a maximum census of 25 patients. Four of the 17 rooms are private with 2 that negative pressure capability, a third room has both positive and negative pressure capabilities. The fourth private room is an end-of-life Arch Suite. The other 13 rooms are semiprivate with 1-2 beds in each. A hand full of these semiprivate rooms are set up for temporary isolation and negative pressure needs overflow.
